The U.S. Army is under control of the Commander-In-Chief... the president.
Riots wouldn't solve anything.

He's saying some concerned soldiers might desert to our side...to little to late though...

Yeah, but the CiC is retarded. I doubt the ARmy would willingly let the Constitution die and be replaced by a less effective Nazi regime that relies on cheap labor.
The riots were for mostly fun. Set a few fires, flip a few cars, and ransack some stores and grab the stuff that would take years of working for us to buy if this NAU comes to fruition.

The Rapture would be my distraction. Hehehe, promise a few priests nice big TVs and they'll start Holy Rants in the town square in no time.

I think that by the time the NAU comes around (2010 by most accounts) people will no longer care. It won't be hard to convince people to believe that such a thing is beneficial, and changes to the constitution won't necessarily be taken as an immediate problem. Basic rights will be allotted for, and people will think that amid the liberal fluff, all seems right. Problem is that certain things obviously wouldn't be guaranteed. Guns, for example, would be taken away as needed. We'll probably be seeing stricter gun laws by then anyway.
And, if people won't accept the constitution under normal circumstances, it won't be hard to use fear, either real or imagined, to make people want this union. Threat of economic downfall, for example. It is a similar fear that led to the creation of one of the most corrupt American organizations: the Federal Reserve. Or, fear of another terrorist plot, or the execution of one, could easily convince people that this could allow for greater security. The minor details, the flaws, the loopholes... they'll never be mentioned to the public, of course.
Fear, ultimately, can make people do crazy things. Here we are acting like the world will end when it will most assuredly go on. But, here we are, saying otherwise, because in our fear-induced mind, it is only logical to assume that this will be disastrous - which it will. The question is: by how much?
