I will actually be reposting this story, for this actual part was made more for a script... So I'm scrapping it, and moving foward in the story. But thanks for the comments.

Changed my mind ^^. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Danny looks confused. "So he didn't die?" he asks. Jim tries to explain. "The Post wanted me to check up on the story. So after I received the article I did some digging. If you remember. The fire that broke out in the Lynesdale building wasn't just your average fire. A resident had earlier phoned 911, reporting a breaking and entering in one of the apartments on the upper floor. Once the police arrived the building was already in flames. Most of the residents evacuated the building on their own, but the police believed they now had a hostage situation on the fifth floor. Witnesses reported at least two gunmen and one hostage still in the building. The fire department soon arrived on the scene, and what happened after that... Is a mystery." Danny begins flipping through Carters file. "So, how did he die?" "I was just getting to that part." Jim says removing a cigarette from the pack in his inside coat pocket. Jim holds the cigarette with one hand, pressing in the car lighter button with the other. "The police report said that three officers had entered the building prior to the fire departments arrival. A few minutes later.. Several shots were fired. Two fire trucks arrived about the same time that communications from within the building had ceased. The officers were instructed not to enter the building until the fire could be contained. Somebody wasn't following orders." "A hero complex?" Danny asks. Jim pauses, thinking to himself "A few guys looking to save lives for medals? "It's possible." Jim removes the lighter from the dash and lights the tip of his cigarette, taking a few puffs before placing the lighter back in its slot. "Carter was the last one in the building before the fire could be settled enough for others to enter. Reportedly Carter was forced to enter the building through the fourth floor window after the ladder he was on malfunctioned. Several minutes later more gunshots were fired within the building. Nobody knows for sure what took place from the moment Carter entered to the moment the bodies were removed from the building. I was trying to piece together the events that took place. All I knew for sure at the time was that eight bodies were found. The reports said that two officers died of gun shot wounds, the other apparently got trapped beneath burning debris. The three gun men were also killed by gun fire. While the unidentified female hostage and our own Mr. Carter were pronounced dead at the hospital by smoke inhalation. Later I discovered the mistake. There was a survivor of the Lynesdale fire. I couldn't get any answers with the police, so I went to the hospital and talked with the staff there. The doctor said that Carter and the woman were pronounced dead at 7:32pm. At 7:58pm... They woke up."

"They!?" Danny asks, unsure if he was hearing Jim correctly. "Thats right kid. twenty six minutes. Twenty six minutes went by and then they both just, woke up. As if that wasn't amazing enough, neither of them reported showing any signs of brain damage. The woman was shipped to another hospital for needed surgery, where I was told she died in transit. I couldn't find any records of her visit or transfer... Its as if she never existed, and she wasn't the only one. Carters records were missing as well, but he remained at the hospital. I tried several times to get an interview with him but the hospital denied my visits. I was able to acquire his address and phone number so I left my name and number on his answering machine. An interview with Carter would have been huge, Not just for his remarkable return from the dead, but he may of been the only one who could of given any real answers to what happened that day. I wasn't going to give up so easily. I returned to the hospital several times, only to have them continue to turn me away. Then three weeks after Carter arrived at the hospital, I tried to visit one last time. The nurse told me Mr. Carter had been checked out under the care of his brother. To this day I find that alittle hard to believe since I happen to know that Carter was an only child. That was the last time anyone would ever see William Carter. After that he just vanished... No checks written, no charges to his credit cards, no visits to his bank account period. Nothing would be used or bought in his name again. I was sitting on a major story I couldn't write. All I had was a few witnesses, a couple of doctors and nurses who could give me little information, and who's cooperation would be described as reluctant, at best. All of that would be dismissed as heresy or just plain rumors without any real physical evidence to back it up. I had everything, but could prove nothing. I needed to find Carter. I continued my search for him for over a year. He never returned home. And I quit writing for the Post." Danny closes the file. "So this has been your white whale for the last two and a half years?.. The story you believed would have made your career?" Jim looks at Danny and then returns his attention to the road, taking a long drag off his cigarette before answering. "Yes Danny... This story was my obsession." Danny shakes his head. "Wow Jim.. This is crazy stuff. So... How did you finally find him?" "I never was able to find Carter Danny... ...Carter found me."
