The Siege of Jacinto Plateau Prologue:Tomas Fenix was born into a wealthy family that lived in the city known as Carad Nome. When he was just a boy, his parents died from a deadly disease. Tomas always suspected that his parents had been assasinated because his family could afford the best doctors the city had. When Tomas learned of his parents' death he asked what had happened. The first answer he ever received was that they had simply died. One doctor had told Tomas that his parents had died from a disease that only the nomad people that lived in Sera's ice caps died from. Despite his parents' untimely death Tomas grew up to be a normal man. He used his parents' wealth to further his education and graduated with multiple degrees from Carad Nome University. After graduating from college, Tomas Fenix replaced his father's vehicle manufacturing plant with his own weapons producing factory. Tomas designed many variants of weapons and sold them to the armory. His first creation was the Lancer Assault Rifle. A fully automatic assault rifle with an extra something. On the end of the rifle there was a chainsaw bayonet. By pressing a simple button and revving the blade of the chainsaw by squeezing a second trigger, a soldier could carve an enemy into bloody chunks of meat. The Coalition of Ordered Governments were pleased with the results and equipped all of their troops with the Lancer. Tomas also designed and produced the C.O.G. soldier battle armor. Because of rigorous training and almost non-stop drilling, a C.O.G. soldier's body became massive and muscular. Normal body armor wasn't enough to fully protect a soldier. So Tomas had new body armor designed. He called it the Mark III Assault Armor, or M3AA for short. Tomas kept thinking of new ideas each month. He designed and built the first Gnasher Shotgun. A short range weapon that fired explosive shells and could blow a man apart with one shot. Years after Tomas Fenix's business became succesful and he became a multimillionaire he meant a stunningly beautiful woman named Victoria Hofner. She too came from a wealthy family that lived in Carad Nome. Unlike Tomas, her parents were still alive and owned a very successful chain of food markets. Victoria was the heiress to Gerald Hofner. Victoria was a peaceful woman and disliked weapons, but fell for Tomas's charming attittude. The wealthy young lovers meant at a party Gerald held to celebrate a brand new store opening. Tomas spotted Victoria and immediately introduced himself. They spent the whole night talking to eachother about their businesses and personal lives. Months later they announced they were getting married. Nine months after their marriage, Tomas Fenix and the new Victoria Fenix had a baby boy that they named Marcus Fenix. Marcus loved his parents, but didn't love the way they lived. He never liked the easy life. That is why he joined the C.O.G. Marcus excelled in leadership and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant after graduating from training. His parents didn't like what their son had become, but they still respected him. It was Marcus's life after all. Who were they to control him like overlords. Marcus would visit his parents every once in a while. On Marcus's twenty third birthday he got the worst news of his life. Back at his estate in Carad Nome his mother had fallen terminally ill. The doctors said it was a wasting sickness that they had never seen before. They said there was nothing they could do for her. A few weeks later Victoria Fenix died in her sleep. She was buried in the cemetery behind the church that the Fenixs went to on Sundays. From there Marcus's life got a little better. A wandering tribe of nomads tried to raid the military compund Marcus was stationed in. With a trained mind and quick thinking, Marcus and his men repelled the attack and slaughtered the nomads. Marcus and his men earned medals and honors from defending the compound and some of his men were promoted. His training buddy Dominic Santiago was promoted to sergeant. Back in Carad Nome, Tomas lived a quiet life. He had no heir to his business because Marcus was in the army. Tomas didn't want to force his only son to do something he hated. So he sold his company to the highest bidder and retired to Fenix Estate where he lived a life of solitude. That life carried on for years. Until Emergence Day happened. Scientists had wondered if Sera's core was hollow or not. They got the answer when tunnels opened up all over the planet inside the walls of maor cities and a race known as the Locust made themselves known. The Locust Horde were thought to be just fictional boogeymen. That all changed when they crawled out of their tunnels and began to slaughter millions of people. Tomas had built his very own lab in the basement of his estate. In there he designed his weapons and chartered Sera's mining tunnels where Imulsion was found. He became startled as the probes he sent into the manmade tunnels began to find other tunnels that weren't listed in the databases. Tomas studied these tunnels for days. The separate sets of tunnels weren't being dug by any human miners. They showed no characteristics of human mining machines. The tunnels seemed to be dug by enormous claws. Tomas reasoned that there must be some giant creature that lived under the surface of Sera. Tomas worried about the safety of the miners and so he sent a copy of his findings to Carad Nome's Government offices. The report was dismissed as a host. The mayor of the city called it a hoax and named Tomas an old lunatic. Unfortunately for the human race, the mayor's decision nearly condemned them. Had he sent an investigation team down into the mines the Locust that had been tunneling to the surface to slaughter the human race would have been discovered and maybe defeated before all Hell was unleashed. But, it was not to be and Emergence Day happened. Holes opened up all across the major cities of Sera and the Locust Horde arose. The Gears Soldiers, caught unaware, couldn't mount a counterattack fast enough and most were wiped out. Survivors fled the cities to seek refuge in Sera's deserts and forest. Many were intercepted as they fled and massacred. The surviving military bases launched nuclear missiles and used their orbital laser satellite known as the "Hammer of Dawn" to destroy their own cities and hopefully kill the Locust as well. For a while the Locust were gone. But then more came. The human race was on the run. No place seemed safe from the Locust Horde. Humanity's mightiest cities lie in ruins from bombings and war. Their army is scattered and the Locust kill more everyday. All seemed lost until a traveling convoy of survivors found Jacinto Plateau. A large formation of solid granite that spanned hundreds of miles across open desert. Granite, being a rock that is nearly impossible to tunnel through, seemed to be a good defensive advantage. The survivors climbed the plateau and began to build a fortress city. They named the fortress after the very thing that kept the Locust from killing them, Jacinto. Within a few years more survivors came to Jacinto seeking refuge. With each band of survivors, the fortress grew. Tomas was one of the first people to reach the top of Jacinto. HE became a key figure in the fight against the Locust because of his knowledge of engineering. Tomas designed the walls surrounding the city. Towers and battlements were built on top of those walls. Twenty miles away from the fortress city was another wall that served as a lookout point. Academies were placed at the northern, southern, eastern, and western points along the wall. Approximately one-third of the C.O.G. army was stationed at the outer wall while the rest resided in the city's walls. All seemed peaceful and life returned to normal, but then Locust armies were spotted marching towards the outer wall on all sides. The Locust Horde had found Jacinto City and planned to finish what they had begun, total annihilation of the human race.

Day 1
Time: 8:47am
Location: North Barricade Academy
Warning sirens rang out all along through the hallways of the outer wall. Technicians stationed in the commando bridges located at the four barricade academies looked at the live feed streaming in from the security cameras placed along the battlements. Each screen showed the same horrifying image.
Miles away near the edges of Jacinto Plateau was a new Locust Horde army marching towards the fortress city. The outer wall was surrounded on all sides by them. The army consisted of every type of Locust. From the Drone footsoldier to the mighty Brumak. Escape was impossible, for any Raven choppers that tried to fly away would surely be shot down by Reavers and Brumaks.
The C.O.G. army would have to stand and fight against their enemy if they were to survive. And fight they would. The battlements along the outer wall were heavily fortified with artillery units and many Hellblaster turrets that could shred squads of enemies to bits in mere seconds. The walls stood hundreds of feet tall and were just as thick. The walls were like a beehive with hangars and garages for vehicles and baracks for the Gears. Inside was a maze of hallways that only C.O.G. personnel could navigate because that was part of their training. The walls were protected by titanium plating that could withstand a barrage from any kind of artillery. The problem was the Brumaks were carrying shrapnel missiles. Once a missile was fired from the Brumak it would fly to its target and detonate upon contact, sending a hailstorm of shrapnel flying everywhere that would shred human ranks and damage the weapon emplacements. However, the battlements had plenty of color and enough anti-air and missile turrets to destroy most of the Brumak's barrage of fire, if not all of them.
Marcus Fenix awoke, rubbing his hand against his eyes to ward off his drowsiness. The first sound to hit his ears were the warning sirens. Marcus got up from his cot and walked over to his computer console. Because Marcus Fenix was a lieutenant he had his own personal room with a computer console, locker, and weapons chest. The lower ranks had to sleep in the barracks a few floors down. The Gear soldier pressed a button on the blue screen and a technician's face appeared on screen.
"What the hell is going on?" grumbled Marcus.
"Sir, a Locust army has reached the Plateau and is marching towards us. The outer wall is completely surrounded," said the technician with worry in his voice. The man was sweating profusely. Must be scared to death thought Marcus. Even though technicians hadn't seen much of the Locust Horde, they had still heard of what the enemy was capable of. The Locust were ruthless enemies that wouldn't stop until their goal was met. No one was exactly sure what that was, but most people guessed that it was the complete and total extermination of the human race.
"Show me," said Marcus, his expression grim.
"Right away," said the technician as he typed on another console. Seconds later live feeds from multiple security cameras appeared on Marcus's screen showing the invading Locust.
"I want the artillery to fire at will as soon as the Locust are in range. Contact General Hoffman and tell him the situation. Ask for permission to use the Hammer of Dawn," ordered Marcus. General hoffman, the leader of the C.O.G. army, was currently located in Jacinto Fortress miles away. He was in charge of the security force guarding the inner city.
"Yes, sir. Bridge out," said the Technician, saluting and disconnecting the transmission.
"Goddamn Locusts are attacking and I haven't even had a bite to eat. F***ing perfect," cursed Marcus as he walked over to his locker and took out his M3AA battle armor. The Gear soldier quickly changed and then looked down at his weapons chest.
The large, titanium chest was code-locked and only Marcus knew the code. He entered the code into a numberpad on the lid and the words "Code Accepted" flashed across the screen. The chest's latches unlocked and the lid rose upward. Marcus withdrew his Boltok pistol and placed it in its holster at his hip. Then he grabbed his Gnasher shotgun and placed it in its slot on the back of his armor. Four frag grenades were in the chest in smaller box. Marcus took those as well.
Lastly he took out his Lancer rifle. It was a gift from his father. Marcus had recieved on his graduation day when he was made into a full Gear soldier. He looked at an inscription on the side of the gun. It read "Give 'em Hell, Son."
Marcus gripped the rifle tightly and muttered, "I will pops. I will."
He moved towards his door and it opened automatically. Outside in the hallway the sirens were even louder. Other Gear soldiers and personnel ran along the corridors, preparing for the attack. Elevators and staircases led to the many levels of the wall.
Marcus pressed his hand to his ear where his communications earbud was. Gears ran past him up the ladders and stairs leading to the battlements. Marcus could hear artillery fire echo across the wall as the Locust moved into range. Shells bounced off the panneling and smoke blew across the walls. The firing of the hellblaster turrets and some obsceneties were heard as Gears mowed down enemy infantry or Reavers flying above.
"Dom, you read me?" said Marcus into his comm. Seconds later Domm answered back.
"Have a nice nap?" asked Dom followed by a laugh.
"It's great to hear you too. Now, what's the situation below?"
The Gears are ready to move, sir. I have a squadron of APCs and Pyro Tanks ready move at any moment."
"Good, have the men load up. I'll be down soon."
"Sir yes, sir! Dom out."
Marcus ran to the nearest elevator and hit the button to open the door. The lift sped up its shaft to his floor and the doors parted. Marcus stepped in and the doors closed behind him. Inside the Jacinto anthem played slowly. Normally elevators were only to be used in extreme emergencies even though the outer wall had never had one before. The Gear soldier considered the invading Locusts as an extreme emergency.
The technician's voice began in Marcus's earpiece. "Sir, I have General Hoffman on the line. He wishes to speak to you."
"Put him on," replied Marcus. The technician did what he was told with a word. Hoffman's loud and angry voice started in Marcus's ear.
"Lieutenant Fenix we have confirmation on the Locust assault. The bastards have completely surrounded the wall. All the Barricade Academies have engaged the enemy. Unfortunately, we can't risk using the Hammer at such close proximity to the wall, so I'll have it used on the back ranks," said General Hoffman.
"And my orders, sir?" asked Marcus.
"Your orders are to hold the wall at all costs. Understand?"
"Yes, sir. I do."
"Good, Hoffman out."
The elevator reached the vehicle garage where Dom and other soldiers were waiting. The doors parted and Marcus stepped out into the large, dimly room. In front of him were the backs of the APCs and Pyro Tanks ready to move. Further ahead was a line of garage doors that lead to the outside deserts of the plateau.
Dom ran up with his shotgun unslung in case any Locust managed to break into the garage somehow. His face was darkly tan and unshaven. Dom wasn't as tall as Marcus, but he was just as wide. Back in the training academy, Dom was always picked first when the trainees played thrashball. Marcus sometimes wondered why Dom had chosen to become a soldier. Then he would remember why he himself did.
"We're ready to move out, sir," said Dom, saluting. Dom and Marcus were really good friends and only acted like military men in front of superiors or other soldiers.
"Good, let's get going. I wanna kill some bastards," said Marcus with a grin.

Yeah, it's after Emergence Day Dagoth. It's about what happened at Jacinto Plateau when the Locust attacked and Marcus tried to save his father. Anyone who has played Gears of War and read the beginning of the manual where it tells the story knows what happens to Marcus and his father.

Wow you've been busy hound! You have alot of stories I have to get caught up on. I love gears of war, but was dissappointed that it only hinted at a plot and backstory but didn't actually have either. Yours is great, and already better than what the game offers in my opinion.

Wow, thanks man. This is about what happened before the game and why Marcus was imprisoned. I could do a fanfic telling the story of the game itself, but with a little more. But, I'd have to play through the whole game again just to get the main plot right because my friend and I beat the game on Co-Op. We rushed through it and beat it in about 8 hours, I think. I'll consider writing my version of the game.

Marcus looked at the Gears assembled before him. Most of the soldiers wore the standard issue armor. A few weren't wearing helmets. Marcus had to hold back a laugh as he noticed a soldier with pink and purple stripes painted on his armor.
The lieutenant walked up to the man, passing through the ranks of his men. The striped soldier straightened his back even more and looked dead ahead as Marcus approached. The C.O. stopped less than a foot away from the soldier.
"Let me guess," said Marcus with a smile. "You lost a bet?"
"Sir! Yes, sir!" replied the striped soldier. He was wearing his helmet and inside it he sweated profusely. Then Marcus did something unexpected.
"I have a bet for you," said Marcus still smiling. The scars on his face twisted and almost made him look even more menacing.
"Sir?" asked the striped soldier. Marcus pointed at the man's longshot sniper rifle with his gloved hand.
"I want you to take out as many Locusts as you can with that, soldier," said Marcus. "If you manage to make enough kills I'll trade bunks with you. Whaddya say?"
"It's a deal, sir."
Marcus looked at the rest of the first wave of ground troops. Outside the steel plated walls of the garage the sounds of battle were still raging. The gear soldiers heard the roars of the Locust Horde as they continued their attack. Artillery shells flew from the walls and impacted amongst the enemy ranks, creating loud explosions and resulting in screams of pain and joyous shouts.
"Time to roll," said Marcus. "Load up!"
The Gears marched up the ramps of the APCs and Death Tanks. The APCs could carry a maximum of two four-man squads. Some of the tanks were equipped with roof mounted chain guns. The Death Tanks were twice as big as the APCs, but only had enough room for a four-man squad and two personnel. One to drive the behemoth and another to man the shrapnel and flamethrower guns on the tank.
Marcus's squad ran over to him with their chosen weapons at the ready. Sergeant Mikal with his Gnasher, Private Welks with his longshot, and Private Zerm with his two boltok pistols. The squad stopped in front of the lieutenant and immidiately saluted. Marcus saluted back and walked over to the tank in the lead of the formation. Unlike the APCs, the Death Tank entry ramps were in the back.
Marcus stepped in first and took his seat next to the driver. The gunner was already in the top part of the tank behind the controls of the cannons. The gear's squad followed in and took their seats with their weapons across their laps.
"All systems check," said the driver. "Opening garage doors...Now." He flicked a switch on the console and the garage doors rumbled open. The APCs and Death Tanks were put into drive and sped off into the battle. Shrapnel lanced from the tanks' cannons, tearing Locusts apart and crippling others. Marcus saw a Corpser blown into bloody giblets as artillery fire smashed into it. The dead locust's burnt entrails pounded on the armor of the tank like a gory rain.
"That's gotta hurt," said Marcus with a laugh.
Dom was riding shotgun in an APC next to Marcus' tank. The rest of his squad sat in the back checking their weapons to make sure they were fully operable. A brumak no more than fifty meters away launched a missile from its back at the APC. The driver didn't see it until it was too late to evade. He tried to turned the APC the best he could to dodge the ballistic. The missile impacted against the side of the APC, blowing a hole through the armor and reducing Private Gottra to nothing more than chunks of meat and puddles of blood.
The force of the explosion sent the APC careening into a ditch where it rolled a few meters and finally stopped out of formation. Dom unbuckled his strap and clicked the safety off his lancer. His squad and the second did the same. The driver hit the button to open the ramp and Locust fire streamed in through the opening.
"Everyone out," ordered Dom. "You too." He grabbed the driver and dragged him out onto the open desert. He handed the driver his snub pistol and pushed him down into the ditch where the squads were taking cover.
Dom placed his left hand against his ear as he fired into the Locusts with his right. "Marcus! My APC is down. I need support now! Over!"
"Roger that, Dom. Squads five and six en route to your position. Over!" said Marcus. His tank was parked behind a concrete barricade sending a torrent of shrapnel and flames over the top into the Locust Horde. Squads five and six were riding in the APC closest to Dom's position. They drove across the battlefield and pulled in front of the ditch. The gears inside stormed out as Reavers soared overhead, pouring machine gun fire into them.
Two men fell with holes in their chests from the flying beasts. Another was nailed by a torque bow bolt and exploded in a cloud of gore seconds later, filling the APC with fire and killing the driver.
"Goddammit!" cursed Dom. He fired his Lancer at the nearest Reaver, spraying its flank with a hail of lead. Black blood rained down and the creature crashed into the ground, crushing the pilot right when Dom emptied his clip. He quickly reloaded and chose a new target. Up ahead a group of thirty wretches was running straight for the gears' position.
"Wretches!" yelled one of the soldiers and the rest opend fire. The men armed with longshots fired at the wretches in the back, blowing them up with the high caliber rounds. Dom tossed a frag grenade into the mix and shouted, "Yeah!" as it took out five of the bastards.
Marcus and his squad bailed out of the tank and took up a position in a trench to its right. Welks obliterated an enemy's head with every shot of his sniper rifle. Shell casings were falling all around his feet as he ended one abomination's life after another. Zerm blew off limbs and caved in enemy chests with his boltoks. Both guns were smoking with heat from his extreme amount of fire. He laughed like a mad man as he hit an enemy's grenade causing it to go off and envelope three more in shrapnel. Mikal was next to Marcus, killing anything that got too close with his gnasher. Several dead locusts lay in front of him with gaping holes in their chests from the shotgun's explosive ammunition. His armor was stained with blood and guts from the dead, but he didn't seem to notice.
The other squads were exiting their APCs and taking cover behind the concrete barricades placed along the perimeter. Only oneone other APC had been hit. It lay twenty feet away, its hull a smoking ruin from the boomshot rounds that had struck it. Flames licked at it from the inside, warping the metal and burning the bodies of the unlucky humans inside. Smaller explosions occured as the heat set off the deads' ammo.
Dom fired around the APC in front of him the best he could. The Locust foot troops weren't paying him and the gears anymore attention. Above him swarmed Reavers. The gears had managed to kill a few and used the dead bugs as makeshift cover, but the enemies kept coming. They flew down, swerving left and right, stitching fire across the rocks and sand into their dead comrades' bodies to hit the humans behind.
"Here they come!" yelled a gear soldier on the other side of the ditch. Just like he said, the Reavers swirled around and flew towards them hungry for more. As one the humans opened fire, taking out three more Reavers and their pilots. The human snipers concentrated on killing the Reavers themselves with headshots. Dom watched in amazement when one sniper killed a Reaver and caused it to crash into another, sending both slamming into the ground.
"Shit yeah!" the soldier had said. Twenty-seven minutes later the gears were no longer under attack. Around the ditch were piles of locust soldiers and immense reaver corpses. Black blood soaked into the dirt, turning it muddy and dark. Only seven gears had died. The survivors split the ammo amongst themselves and emptied the weapons' clips into the sand. Finally, Dom stepped out of the ditch, his Lancer raised. Looking over to where the rest of the human foot soldiers were, he could see the battle was still raging. A berserker had joined the combat and was now wreaking havoc. The monstrosity picked a screaming man up and tore him in half. The female locust tossed the corpse away after biting a chunk from the upper body. It landed in the dirt with a wet thud.
"Artillerly!" said Marcus into his commlink. "Target the ****ing berserker! Over!" He heard a reply, but ignored it. A gun located on the battlements lined up its barrel with the berserker and fired a round. It was a dead on shot, punching right into the berserker's upper body and exploding it instantly. The lower half fell over while blood and burnt meat fell from the sky spattering the gears' armor. They cheered and returned to the grisly fight against the drones and theron guards.
The Death Tanks continued their assault, killing dozens of locust at a time. As of right now, the humans were winning. But, this army was being sacrificed to test the resilience of the human defensives.
Miles away, General OROZO sat on the back of his Reaver watching the battle run its course. The main army waited below him for their orders. From the information he had received from his officers participating in the battle, OROZO learned that the Eastern Human base was the weakest. So he decided to focus a greater amount of his army there. Once inside the walls the Locust Horde would tear the wall down from the inside out like bloodthirsty maggots. Then OROZO would wait for reinforcements before beginning the main assault on the fortress city of Jacinto.
"Sooooon," he growled.
