The sun is shining and there’s not a cloud in the sky. As you’re taking your daily stroll down the worn concrete path in the local city park, you raise your normally downcast gaze to see something you never noticed before. There’s a thin, almost overgrown tendril of dirt that winds its way into nothingness
Letting curiosity take over, you change your route and follow this odd trail. It stretches on for quite awhile and you start to have thoughts of turning back. All that’s around you is waist-high grass and a few scattered trees, nothing nice or different to look at.
Just when you’re just about to give up and go home, an iron gate appears in front of you. You’re eyes widen automatically at the mere sight of it. Majestic loops and spirals wind their way around straight, thin bars that are etched with runes unreadable to you. Creatures of all kinds were delicately and intricately designed and placed in any spot where there was room for them.
You wonder what could possibly be on the other side of this beautiful door and go to push it open, but before you do, you consider your options. Would this still be here if you came back tomorrow, or was this a once-in-a-lifetime chance you’d probably never have to opportunity to take again?
A: Go through the gate. The rest of the world can wait for this.
B: Wait a minute and see what may be in store for you. You never know with these things…
C: Turn around and go home. This is kind of weird…

You stand staring at the gate for a few minutes more, then decide to push it open. Your fingertips are almost about to touch the metal when suddenly, one of the minute figurines comes to life! You stumble backwards and trip over a rock that you couldn’t recall being there a few moments ago, landing hard on your backside. The figure, a dragon, perches on your knee when you sit up, and it’s laughing at you.
Though normally you’d be all over the dragon with questions, you’re a bit upset that it scared the living daylights out of you then thought it was funny. Bearing that grudge, you attempt to flick it to the ground… only to find that its body is still as hard as the metal it was made of. This only makes it laugh harder, so finally you get frustrated and stand up. The dragon wasn’t prepared for this one, and it hit the ground in a cloud of dust.
Fluttering its wings angrily, the dragon hops back up and ends up hovering in front of your face, muttering and chattering in a language you can’t understand.
“Hey,” you say to it, “I’m sorry, but I can’t understand a word you’re saying. Mind trying English for a change?”
The little fellow looks at you, his head cocked confusedly. You realize he doesn’t understand you either, and you turn to head back home when you trip yet again over the rock. You land this time flat on your face, and when you look up there’s a small fairy sitting cross-legged in front of you, combing through her hair primly with her fingers. She breaks out into giggles as well, and you’re starting to wonder why stumbling is provoking so much entertainment for these iron creatures.
The fairy, after letting the laughing spell wear off, is twittering in front of your face now, pointing to the gate with her miniscule fingers. You’re guessing that this means she wants you to go through, but you still aren’t sure…
What do you do next?
A: Just go through the gate, it’s that simple.
B: See if the fairy can understand you at all. Maybe you can get some answers.
C: Ignore them both and go home. You know you have to be dreaming now.

You pluck the fairy from the air, and, to her severe displeasure, plop her into your palm. She starts ranting in the same language that the dragon had. You try to listen to her more closely, but her voice is too high-pitched and much too quick to understand.
“Excuse me,” you interrupt. She shuts her mouth and stares at you. “Can you understand me? At all?”
She shakes her head and frantically points at the gate once more. The dragon joins her, swooping to and fro between you and the doorway. You finally make the connection, and stand up once more. The fairy leaps from your palm and follows the dragon with a much more erratic path.
Though you’re unsure of this gate, you finally decide that they want you to open it, and your curiosity gets the better of you. You go to push it forward again, and this time you succeed. The gate is open, yet the world beyond it just looks exactly like the one around you now.
Disappointment fills you. Why did the two creatures want this barrier opened so bad if it was exactly like this world? You have no time to think about this, as you are shoved forward suddenly by two heavy but tiny metal figures. Your head lands on the opposite side of the gate, but the rest of you does not. As you go to push yourself up and do something about the mischievous figurines when a hand grabs you by your hair and drags you across. From your limited view, however, you see no one.
It seems like an hour passes, and you’ve been carted around like this the entire time. You know the fairy and dragon are still with you, as they’d been chattering and arguing for the duration of the trip, but you also know that your manhandling isn’t their doing.
Finally you stop and are turned roughly over. The light above you is blinding, and you squint your eyes to soothe them. Something smooth and cold is pushed roughly between your lips, and a bitter liquid is poured into your mouth, arousing your senses with a horrible jolt. You have to think fast… do you want to swallow this, or are you scared of what its effects will be? Hurry… time is of the essence.
A: Swallow it. You’re too weak from your ‘traveling’ to resist it.
B: Hold it in your mouth, see if you can decipher any of the mumblings you hear. They’re English voices, after all.
C: Spit it out. It could be poison, for all you know!

A a long, thought-out decision (or the eenie-meenie-miney-mo game), I have decided that the choice will be... C. However, it's the middle of the night and about half of what I'm typing is incoherent. I'll post tomorrow when I get the chance.
