its the old style flame lamps.. they are basically like small torches or large candles inside a cage. they have them in the game but you can't take them.

I’ve come to far to stop now. I pull on the chain to the lamp. Its reluctant, but I soon manage to pry it free from its base. With light in hand I begin following the tracks deeper into the marsh. I hear the sounds of odd wildlife around me. Nothing seems threatening, just a few frogs, and an insect or two, that seem to be alternating calls. The soaked ground becomes worse turning to mud as I hear water nearby.
I come to a halt as the tracks end at a small creek. I try to get good footing as best I can and leap across the gap. Luckily the tracks continue on the other side. Strange I think to myself. If the drifter knew he was going to be chased… Why wouldn’t he of followed the creek? It would have covered his tracks, and it would of helped his chances of losing the guards. I push the thoughts to the back of my mind for now, and continue forward.
The brush and foliage become thicker the further I travel. It gets quiet.. Real quiet. The sounds that previously accompanied the thick mist have vanished. Now only silence fills the void. Up ahead something reflects my lanterns flame. I move closer to find a damaged shield. Four bloody scratch marks run deeply along its surface, completely disfiguring the horse that is leyawiin’s crest. From the look of things, this shield wasn’t enough for its bearer. I look around the area, but find nothing for several minutes, until I spot a body on the ground just further up ahead.
I approach the body slowly, being sure to stay alert. It seems the shield was the least of this ones worries. I’ve seen some horrific deaths in my time, but nothing could prepare me for what was before my eyes. The body was mangled and torn, the flesh was sliced a hundred times over, and his face was completely ripped from his skull. I doubt I could’ve even told it was human if it wasn’t for the severely damaged armor amongst the twisted corpse.
What could of caused this much destruction? No spell I’m aware of could cause this. And few creatures. An Ogre? A Daedroth? Perhaps, it was what I sensed before I blacked out. Whatever it was, I don’t believe the drifter could be responsible for this madness. I find myself turning my head, unable to look directly at the mound of flesh and torn meat.
I can still see two tracks, one looks to belong to the other Leyawiin soldier. The other I can only guess belongs to the one responsible for this mess. Its tracks were large. Much larger than the average man, or even an Orc for that matter. The drifters tracks just seem to …. Disappear. Perhaps the creature carried him off. He surely has the strength to do it. Or perhaps the drifter was smarter than I thought, and managed to lose me as well. Either way the tracks go off in opposite directions. Looks like I have a choice to make…

I leave the corpse of the fallen guard behind me, but the memory will haunt me for some time to come. I turn right and head off in the direction of the remaining guards tracks. They are easy to follow, even in the darkness. The mud has made the imprints much deeper than before. Every few feet I see spots of blood on nearby plantlife, and small puddles on the ground below me.
He’s injured. I quicken my stride in an attempt to catch up with the soldier. Several minutes go by, and I know I’m close. I have to be. At the rate he’s losing blood, I’ll soon run into the soldier himself, or his lifeless body. I push some branches out of my way, and find myself at a small clearing. The trees and brush seem to surround this small circular area. Its no coincidence I feel. In the center of the clearing there is a hole in the ground several feet in diameter.
The tracks end here. I kneel, placing the lantern before me, doing my best to peer through the darkness to no avail. Suddenly I hear a sound, that sends chills up my spine. There’s a low growl behind me, and I realize… I’m being hunted by something. Its close.. Right behind me just out of sight. I remain calm as I decide my next action…

I'd love you as a writer, but this is the only thing I've read of yours and, quite frankly, I despise CYOAs. Stories and RPs I can go for but CYOAs just ain't my thing. That said, I quite enjoyed what I read.

Appreciate the compliment though.

^_^ I fully understand having difficulty finding time. I can't wait for you to post something else, just the same. I like your ideas and writing style so I don't see how you can fail. Cheers!
