Artorus strolled down the dock, the warm sun beating down on him as he went. A light breeze was blowing in off the water and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. All along the piers, people were laughing and jovially going about there day. A group of sailors worked laboriously to unload cargo from one of the newly docked ships. A great wooden mast rose from the center, casting a long shadow over the men. Across the prow the words Shining Light were clearly visible in bright crimson letters.
“Artorus, over here,” called Atticus from the shade of the ship. “Beautiful day, is it not?” He grinned wide and took a deep breath of fresh air. Artorus walked over to him and gave him a hearty slap on the back.
“Are you getting tired my friend, or should I stop by the Bloated Float before I relieve you?” Artorus asked, chuckling. Atticus seemed to be in good spirits, and it seemed like a good situation to take advantage of. Atticus started to smile but a frown quickly overtook his face and a deep crease ran down his brow, as if he was trying with great earnest to remember something just outside his grasp.
“I,” he began. “I think I-“
“Art!” a young voice shouted, cutting off Atticus mid-sentence. Marcus ran up and started shaking Artorus’s shoulder trying to get his attention.
“Not now, Marcus,” Artorus said, a hint of annoyance creeping into his voice. “Now, what were you going to say, Atticus?” But Atticus was no longer speaking. Instead, he was staring past Artorus, a look of abject horror scarring his face. Artorus quickly spun around but could see nothing. Following Atticus’s gaze, he noticed a cluster of storm clouds on the horizon. The wind began to pick up and the clouds quickly overtook them. As the shadow of the storm covered the wharf, Atticus collapsed to the ground, his face void of expression. Rain started to pound the stone streets; each drop striking the ground like a blow from an armorer’s hammer on hot steel. Artorus quickly knelt by Atticus’s side but the lifeless guard was swept away by a wave of water into the merciless emptiness of the ocean. He quickly got to his feet and looked around for Marcus but the young boy was gone. After a few moments, Artorus spotted him floundering in the water, calling for help. Artorus stood frozen, unable to aid the drowning child. The shock of what he was seeing had almost completely overtaken him when a behemoth of a wave swept him, too, into the ocean.
Now thoroughly back in the moment, he quickly paddled over to Marcus but could find no sign of life. All that was left was a floating husk. Suddenly, one of the previously limp arms shot up and gripped Artorus like a steel vice. Marcus lifted his head out of the water and while staring at him with lifeless eyes, said, “Art, wake up!”

Yeah, that happens occasionally. Trust me, that is nowhere near the worst I've done. I once had to delete my post and rewrite about a third of it.

I know I was just kidding. It's just that I usually never see anything like that. Now go watch Heroes.
