They are both good. what about where you asked it its too long? I don't know, I know they dont want a monster of a story, but I don't know what qualifies as a monster. Oh and submissions are posted here, but they are copied and pasted elsewhere for review, so don't worry if you don't get comments about your post on this thread.

I'm posting the entire story
Tales of Caelas- Escape From Cursed Gate Prison
Legends tell of a prison where only the most dangerous and bloodthirsty criminals are ever taken to, the Cursed Gate Prison. The prison got it's name from the very metal that makes up the entrance gate. The blood of four powerful sorcerers was forged with the iron, creating a curse that could never be broken. People have said that once a criminal is taken past the gate they can never go through it again without dying.
"Well I plan to break that old myth" said Caelas as he remembered what the Captain of the Guard had said five years ago. After being apprehended for killing all the guards in a barrack Caelas had been brought to the Cursed Gate Prison to forever rot in it's iron barred cells. After meeting the Captain of the Guard and hearing the legend of the Gate, Caelas started to form his plan of revenge. His first victim was the Captain.
Being a slender wood elf, Caelas was able to easily hold his breath and slip through the bars. Caelas knew he could have escaped the first night, but he wanted to put the Captain in his place. Caelas had sneaked into the barracks and found a dagger that was easily consealable in his prisoner's cloak. He had studied the Captain's daily habits and remembered his schedule. He knew that at exactly ten at night the captain would be in bed.
Caelas had crept into the Captain's room and driven the dagger right into the Captain's heart. Because the dagger belonged to a guardsman, an interrogation was started by the higher ranked officials. Caelas had framed a young guardsman just for the fun of sending such a young life to Oblivion
Caelas had killed a few people while spending time in the prison. A few weeks after the death of the Captain an Orc prisoner was put into the cell in front of Caelas's.
Caelas asked why the Orc had been moved to the most dangerous wing of the prison. The Orc replied with "I got bloody tired of the cruddy food they serve us prisoners. So one day I decided to grab some real meat. When a guard came to give me my food for the day I walked up to him, grabbed his arm, and yanked it clear off. The little bastard had no idea of what just happened. The little bugger started to call for help. I just sat in my cell and ate his arm. Watching him squirm and scream was quite hilarious. By the time more guards arrived he was already dead. They let me finish my meal and then called for some help. It took ten of those pigs to get me down here. I smashed one's face in and snapped another's neck. After seeing that they hit me over the head and dragged my ass down here."
"You made a large mess, eh? said Caelas quizzically. "Yes. Well that's what I'm good at." replied the Orc. Caelas and the Orc talked for days. After some prodding the Orc finally told Caelas his name: Arg'Nuk. Caelas told Arg'Nuk of why he was in the Cursed Gate Prison.
A few weeks later the Guards came up with a fun little idea. They decided to have a little fighting tournament, just to kill off some of the prisoners. Caelas awoke very startled. He looked around his cell and saw two guards standing over him with their swords drawn. "Come on, get up filth" said one of them.
He was of average height with a short cropped beard and grey hair. Caelas guessed he was about thirty summers old. The other one however, was the opposite. He was fairly short and clean shaven. With blonde hair tied in a ponytail. Caelas could practically see the fear in the young guard's blue eyes. "Get up already" said the older Guard. Caelas got up and looked across the hallway to Arg'Nuk's cell, but he wasn't in there.
The older Guard tied Caelas's wrist behind him and pushed him out of the cell. "Walk" said the older Guard. The younger Guard shut Caelas's cell and started to walk behind Caelas and the other Guard. The two Guards led Caelas into the prison's courtyard. Caelas narrowed his eyes as he looked around the courtyard.
He saw that a small arena had been built. Caelas also saw other prisoners, each with at least two guards near them. Caelas saw Arg'Nuk had five guards surrounding him. Three with swords drawn and two with crossbows. The two guards led Caelas to a spot near Arg'Nuk. "It is good to see you my friend" said Arg'Nuk, as he saw Caelas come near. "Like wise" replied Caelas. Just as Caelas was about to ask what's going on a guard with polished red armor had entered the courtyard and walked into the center of the arena. "Criminals of this prison. I am Tobias. The newly elected Captain of the Guard. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Blood Pit. Here you will fight your fellow prisoners to the death. Why are you about to fight eachother, you may ask? Well we are currently overfilled and running low on prisoner food. Plus, it's damn good fun to see bloodthirsty criminals kill eachother. Now let the killing begin."
Caelas watched match after match. Cell mates and criminal comrades killed eachother without mercy. All for the sake of living. The guards gave each fighter a rusted old sword and shield to use in there matches.
When it was Caelas's turn to fight he stepped into the arena and was utterly surprised at who he had to fight. Standing at the other end of the arena with sword and shield in hand was Arg'Nuk. Caelas grabbed his armaments and prepared to take down his only friend that he made at this god-forsaken prison. "I hope you put up more of a fight than those guards" yelled Arg'Nuk from across the arena. "Oh I will" said Caelas when the guards signaled for the match to begin.
Arg'Nuk charged Caelas, bellowing out a loud warcry. Caelas dropped the shield knowing he would not need it. "Fool" said Arg'Nuk as he swung his sword at Caelas's head. Caelas rolled out of the way and turned to face Arg'Nuk. Caelas slashed at Arg'Nuk's back. Arg'Nuk turned and blocked Caelas's swing with his shield. Before Arg'Nuk could even lift his sword, Caelas kicked him in the ribs. Caelas felt one of Arg"Nuk's ribs snap as he flipped over Arg'Nuk.
Caelas turned and sliced Arg'Nuk's left arm off at the shoulder. Arm and shield fell to the ground as Arg'Nuk let out a roar of pain. Arg'Nuk rose and backhanded Caelas. Caelas rose to his feet and wiped the blood from his busted lip. "This just got interesting" said Tobias as he watched Arg'Nuk swing at Caelas crazily. Caelas avoided every strike. Not even bothering to parry, knowing that if he did his sword would break.
Arg'Nuk slashed, stabbed, and kicked, but he couldn't hit the nimble wood elf. Caelas noticed that Arg'Nuk was starting to move slower and slower. He jumped out of the way of a low slashed aimed to gut him and said "Arg'Nuk listen to me. If you stop now I'll make your death swift and painless. A last gift to you my friend." Arg'Nuk fell to his knees out of breath.
Finally he said" Ok my friend. Please make it quick." Arg'Nuk threw his sword out of the arena and waited with his head down. Caelas walked up to Arg'Nuk and for the first time in years, Caelas did something merciful. He raised his sword and brought it down through Arg'Nuk's neck. The orc's head fell to the ground and rolled a few feet. Caelas dropped to his knees and let out a howl of pure rage.
"Take that elf to the interrogation chamber. I want to know where he learned to fight like that" said Tobias to a nearby Guard. "Yes sir. Right away" replied the Guard. The Guard ran down to the arena and told another Guard to help him. The two Guards drew their swords and raised their shields, fearing that Caelas may jump up and slaughter them. Both of the Guards wore full steel armor. They approached Caelas slowly and carefully. Caelas heard them approach and turned his head to look at them. "Drop the sword and come with us sir" said one of the Guards. Caelas got up and faced the Guards. "Drop the-" before the Guard could even finish what he was saying, Caelas had lunged at him and driven his sword through the Guard's throat. The Guard fell to the ground with Caelas's sword still in his throat. Caelas picked up the dead Guard's sword and aimed a slash at the other Guard. The Guard raised his shield and blocked the attack. Caelas kicked the Guard's knee so hard it bent backwards. The Guard fell to the ground clutching his shattered knee and screaming in pain. His screams were ended as Caelas severed his head from his shoulders. Caelas picked up the second Guard's sword and got ready for more Guards. Tobias stared in horror as he saw Caelas defeat two armed Guards with ease.
"Get more men down there" yelled Tobias. He turned to look at three of his personal Guards. "You three go get some crossbows." "Yes sir" replied the Guards as they ran to the armory in the prison.
Caelas looked at the entrance to the arena and saw five fully armored Guards step towards him. "This will be fun" he said as they made a semicircle in front of him. One Guard brought his sword and shield up and charged at Caelas. Caelas ducked a horizontal slashed at his head and batted the Guard's shield away with one of his swords. He stabbed the Guard straight in the heart with the other sword. Caelas pulled his sword free and sidestepped away from a strike aimed at his back. Caelas swung his foot out and tripped the Guard. Right when the Guard hit the ground, Caelas stabbed his sword through the back of the Guard's head. Blood, brains, skull fragments, and steel flew up as the Guard's head was given a new airhole.
The last three Guards began to walk towards Caelas.
The three Guards closed in on Caelas in a tight semicircle. Caelas ran and slid between the center Guard's legs, cutting off both legs at the hip. The Guard's legs fell out from under him as he screamed in immense pain. Blood spurted like a geyser from the Guard's terrible wounds.
The last two Guards knew their comrade wouldn't survive wounds like that, so they focused their attention on Caelas. They both charged Caelas, shouting swears of vengeance. Caelas ran towards them and doved between them. The Guards stopped and fell to their knees. They coughed up blood from their punctured lungs. Caelas had stabbed his swords through their backs. The Guard's fell over and died, blood pooling around their and the other Guards' bodies. Caelas retrieved his swords and ran as fast as he could for the entrance to the arena.
Tobias and the Guards holding other prisoners back looked at the arena in disbelief. A lone Wood Elf had dispatched an Orc and seven well-trained Guards without a scratch. Tobias's three personal Guards had returned with crossbows in hand. One handed Tobias his gold plated doubleshot crossbow with a bayonet attached to the front end. "Take aim" ordered Tobias as Caelas finally got out of the arena. "Fire!" yelled Tobias. The three Guards and Tobias all let loose shots aimed at Caelas.
Caelas heard the order and instinctively ducked and ran for cover. He felt sharp winds as the bolts flew past him. He knew he had about five to ten seconds before the Guards fired again. Caelas saw a Guard standing with his back facing Caelas and ran right at him. Caelas stabbed one of his swords through the Guards back and turned the body to face the area where the fire was coming from. Bolts punched into the Guard's body instantly killing him.
Caelas withdrew his sword and continued to run to the exit. He decided he would run for the armory, so he could retrieve his old equipment. "Looks like I'll have to make my escape today" said Caelas as he ducked behind a confused group of prisoners and heard them scream as bolts punched into them. Caelas continued to run and duck, until he finally made it to the entrance to the inside of the prison.
Caelas ran as fast as he could. Lucky for him all the Guards were out in the courtyard. He kept on running, knowing that someone was gonna give chase after seeing what he had done. Caelas remember exactly how to get to the armory. During his first week in prison he had spent time finding his way around and remembering where everything was located.
He ran by the mess hall and saw a Guard cleaning tables. The Guard heard him and ran out the mess hall to give chase. Caelas turned around and threw one of his swords. The sword spun through the air and buried itself in the Guard's calf sideways. The Guard stopped running to pull the sword out of his leg. Caelas ran up to him and sliced up at the Guard's face. Caelas had cut the Guard's face in half vertically. Blood gushed out of the wound like a river. Caelas pulled his sword free and continued on, leaving the Guard to his horrible death.
Caelas rounded a corner and saw the door leading to the armory. When he was halfway down the hallway the door to the armory opened. One of Tobias's personal Guards stood in the doorway with his crossbow aimed at Caelas's head.
Caelas knew he had only one option. He ran towards the Guard with his swords ready. The Guard fired, but missed as Caelas spun out of the way. The arrow missed by less than an inch. Caelas counted ten seconds before the Guard took up his aim again. "Good." he thought "This imbecile is slow."
The Guard fired again. This time the bolt glanced Caelas's shoulder. Caelas muttered a curse and kept on running. Ten more seconds ticked by. Caelas was five feet from the Guard. The Guard realized he wouldn't be able to make the shot, so he backed up and closed the door. Caelas knew a bolt could cut throught a wooden door at very close range. Caelas moved to the side of the door and waited. A second later the Guard shot a bolt through the wooden at Caelas's chest level. Caelas knew exactly where the Guard was. He reversed his grip on his sword and stabbed it through the door. Caelas knew he had hit the Guard when blood began to trickle down his sword.
The Guard had been so surprised at what happened that he couldn't even talk. He stared down at the sword stuck in his chest. Caelas withdrew his sword and opened the door. He walked into the room and glanced at the Guard lying on the ground. Caelas immediately sliced the Guard's head off. "Just to be sure" he said as he walked down the corridor to where the prisoners' belongings were kept.
Calas broke the rusty lock on the chest with the hilt of his sword. He found his shrouded armor and weapons. Caelas slipped the armor on over his shirt and pants. He missed the feel of the armor on his body almost as much as slitting people's throats. Caelas strapped his obsidian shortsword to his back and holstered his one-handed crossbow. Caelas strapped his belt of gadgets on and turned to walk to the door. Caelas heard footsteps echoing down the hall. "Mother of Night" he cursed as he knew there was no other way out.
Tobias had a feeling that the Guard he sent to the armory through the underground tunnels was dead, but at least he had that wretched Wood Elf cornered. Tobias and his two personal Guard rounded the corner to the armory and stopped dead.
There at the end of the hall, sitting in the doorway was the Guard's bloodied head. Tobias motioned for his men to draw their crossbows. Tobias drew his two curved swords. He waved one his Guards forward.
The Guard walked towards the doorway slowly, crossbow loaded and ready to fire. He walked under the doorway and stopped suddenly. The Guard slowly turned around to face Tobias and the other Guard. Tobias saw blood trickling down his personal Guard's forehead. The Guard collapsed to the floor. Tobias saw the shaft of a bolt sticking out of the Guard's head.
Caelas knew someone would had to walk under the door, so he had waited with his crossbow ready. Caelas took out a smoke bomb from his belt and through it out into the hallway. Caelas jumped down from his hiding place. Caelas ran out into the hallway. He drew one of his daggers and slit the throat of Tobias's last personal Guard as he ran by.
When the smoke finally cleared Tobias saw his last Guard on the floor clutching his throat as fresh blood poured out. Tobias ran after Caelas knowing he would could not have gone to far.
Caelas ran as fast as he could. He had slit the Guard's throat for the fun of killing someone's comrade without them knowing until it was too late. A bolt flew past his head just as he saw the exit from the prison. Caelas turned his head around to see Tobias chasing after him. Caelas stopped and turned to face Tobias.
"It ends here" yelled Caelas as Tobias closed the distance. "An honourable fight to the death then" said Tobias.
Tobias slung his crossbow on his back and drew his deadly, curved twin swords. "This ends here" yelled Tobias as he ran towards Caelas, weaving his swords about in front of him with lightning speed. "Not good" said Caelas. Tobias lunged at Caelas, aiming his swords at his chest.
Caelas ducked as low as he could. He rolled, so that he was behind Tobias. Caelas slashed at the back of Tobias's knee, but his sword bounced off the heavy bloodred plate armor. Tobias turned around and kicked Caelas in the chest.
Caelas was flung backwards by the force of the kick. If he hadn't gotten his armor the kick would've broken several ribs. How can one move so fast in such thick and heavy armor thought Caelas. Tobias kept slicing at Caelas, never tiring.
Caelas had to think of something fast. Tobias's swords were getting closer and closer to actually hitting Caelas. Caelas ducked again as Tobias slashed at his head. Tobias's sword struck a wooden pillar and got stuck. Now's my chance thought Caelas as he as he drew his mini crossbow.
The crossbow was loaded with an extremely sharp armor piercing bolt. At this range the bolt could easily pierce Tobias's plate armor. Caelas locked his sword with Tobias's other sword and held him steady.
Tobias was looking straight into Caelas's eyes. He knew all he had to do was pull his sword free and it would all be over. Tobias had'nt noticed the small black crossbow in Caelas's free hand.
Caelas shot Tobias in the wrist. Blood sprayed into both combatant's faces as the bolt punched through armor, flesh, bone, and into wood. Tobias roared in pain as he realised what the Wood Elf had done.
Caelas kicked Tobias in the chest with both his feet and flipped backwards. Caelas couldn't belive what he saw when Tobias pulled his arm away from the pillar in a flash of blood and pain. Caelas stared in disbelief as Tobias held his arm up. When Tobias pulled his arm free the bolt had passed right through his wrist.
Sorcerey was the only logical explanation for Tobias's incredible speed and pulling his arm free of the pillar thought Caelas. Caelas looked Tobias up and down. The only part of Tobias that wasn't clad in armor was his head. "Great" said Caelas as he thought of what he was going to do next.
"Surprised are you? said Tobias. He let out a long maniacal laugh. "You don't stand a chance elf."
His armor must be enchanted thought Caelas as Tobias renewed his attack. Tobias raised his swords, yelling like a madman. He swung and swung at Caelas, but somehow the elf managed to dodge his attacks.
I've got to do something now before I tire out thought Caelas as he realised what he had to do. Tobias's armor was enchanted, not Tobias. His armor was what gave him his immense strength and incredible speed.
Caelas glanced at Tobias's wrist as he parried a stab aimed at his his throat. Blood was flowing from Tobias's wrist like a red river. Caelas parried another blow and jumped into the air. He grabbed a rafter and pulled himself up. Caelas looked down and saw Tobias sheath one of his swords and pull out his crossbow.
Tobias began to fire his crossbow at Caelas one-handed as he ran after him from below. Caelas pulled out a throwing dagger from his belt. The dagger was tipped with a poison that as soon as the poison entered the bloodstream it would paralyze it's victim. Caelas had use it to complete many of his assigments that had to die in an accident.
Caelas ran along the rafters and waited for Tobias to reload. Caelas threw his dagger at Tobias's neck. The blade slammed right into Tobias releasing the poison into his blood.
Tobias yelled a curse as he dropped his halfway loaded crossbow and pulled the dagger out of his neck in a flash of fiery pain and a spurt of blood. Tobias slammed the dagger down and retrieved his crossbow. "You need to work on your aim Elf. To bad you'll never have that chance" yelled Tobias as he finished reloading his crossbow.
Caelas just smirked and continued along the rafters, dodging bolts.
Tobias felt weak. His movements were becoming sluggish. He stopped running and looked up at Caelas. "What did you do to me you wretched Elf" Yelled Tobias. "That dagger was tipped with a poison. It paralyzes the victim with a minute. I made it myself. How does it feel" replied Caelas with an evil smile on his face.
Tobias began to feel stiff. He tried to move his left arm up and point his crossbow at Caelas, but it wouldn't budge. Caelas jumped down and walked up to Tobias. "So much for honor, eh" he said as he pushed Tobias over. Tobias fell to the ground, a massive headache began to form in the back of his unarmored head after it hit the stone floor.
Caelas kneeled down beside Tobias's chest and looked him in the eye. "You fear death don't you" asked Caelas. Tobias answered him with stone cold eyes. "The poison paralyzes victims, but does not numb them. Tell me. Does this hurt." Caelas said as he stabbed his sword into Tobias's other wrist.
Tobias let out a scream of pain. Fear shone in his eyes like a child seeing a vampire slaughter his parents. "I should torture you, but seeing as how I'm running out of time i'll end you now" said Caelas. Tobias let out a sigh of relief. "Not before I have a little fun though" said Caelas as he stabbed his sword up into Tobias's groin through the weaker armor. Tobias screamed in pain as blood poured from his groin. "You cost me the life of my friend, so i'll kill yours" said Caelas as he cut off Tobias's manhood.
Tobias continued to scream, hoping someone would come to his aide. "Quit your sceaming" yelled Caelas as he drew a small dagger from his belt. "This one will work perfectly" he said as he drove the dagger into Tobias throat. "Have fun in Oblivion you wretch" said Caelas.
Caelas got up and and ran out the exit to the front of the prison. He had left his dagger in Tobias's throat as a warning to anyone who thought of pursuing him. Caelas saw the gate and decided to scale the wall connected to it. He stopped at the base of the wall and pulled out gloves with spikes on the palms. Perfect for scaling stone and tree. Caelas slipped them on and began the climb up the twenty foot wall. He got to the top and looked down. The streets of the city were empty.
Caelas climbed down the wall and jumped down when he was eight feet up. Caelas landed without a sound, looked around him and ran down the nearest alleyway.
Caelas knew he would have to make his way back to the Sanctuary and his comrades.
