Congrats to Furle, for her impressive 242 word story, which remains untitled:
Around the corner and into the bedroom ran the young girl. Her eyes were wide; she knew she was running out of time, and her pursuer would be coming at any minute.
“Keri!” hissed a voice, that of Jackie, from under the bed. Keri whipped around, her blonde hair bouncing around her face as she did so. “Get out of here! He knows some one will be here! Hurry, run! Before it’s too late!”
The girl did so, sprinting down the stairs. She was running out of places to go… until she dashed into the kitchen and discovered an empty cabinet. He would never suspect her there! Keri was safe!
“… Here I come…” came the call. The mere sound of his voice was enough to make her shiver with fright. Don’t come in the kitchen, don’t come in the kitchen… A shrill scream came from the upstairs bedroom. So, Jackie had been right. He did know all of the obvious places.
Seconds turned to minutes, and minutes remained minutes but seemed to stretch into hours as Keri huddled, cramped, in the tiny cabinet. Finally, the dreaded footsteps came. Thump…………thump…………thump………… A creak sounded from another cabinet door being opened. Oh, no… Why did it have to be me? Why does he want me so badly?
Finally, the torment ended and began all at once when light flooded in. Keri’s voice raised in a scream, and fell into laughter. “So, who’s it this round?”
