Yes, I have. I can honestly say it was unimpressive and not worth the hype.

Isn't great an opinion? So really all you did was put up a book that a lot of people like. Thats what I was commenting on. I meant no one likes any book I've brought up...well ok the 90 years olds maybe but that's a stretch. That's like saying Hamlet isn't great, just because you don't like it. I hate, hate The Great Gatsby, yet it is of great literary quality. Favouring something isn't the same as recognizing it's literary merit.

Don't get me wrong I think many books are better than eragon but to say its crappy is a bit much. It was good. Especially for a authors first book. It takes about 2-3 books for an author to find their style. Only a few have made the exception.

Again (this arguement is far fetched but its getting late and I'm tired) Just because more people deem it good doesn't make it good. Winning an award doesn't make it good. It makes it good in the eyes of a few people. So really how does this book have any merit? Just because it has an award? Lots of books have awards. And they are much better that gatsby.

Blood, some people on here write at the same level as Paolini. The reason they aren't published is because of who Paolini knew. His parents were publishers, for one, making publication a whole lot easier (though it ended up being picked up by someone else).

Lets just drop this arguement. Its not going to solve anything. Its just a matter of opinion.

oh and trust me. there are people on this board that could whipe the floor with poalini. His opening like 3 chapters were the worst things I've ever seen. It actually offended me to read it.

Something is considered great because of what's behind it. It is more than a good read, it is more than some big wors plastered on a page. It has a theme that somehow works into the human element, it creates, it has depth. What makes Gatsby a greta story, what makes Hamlet great, and countless others great is that there is something to them.

Blood... I'm curious what you think of Shakespeare... If you say he isn't one of the greatest writers of all time... Your opinion is void...

I am dumbfounded. The Outsiders, Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mocking Bird, and Catcher in the Rye, were all very well written books (hence the reason they are so well known). And here we have some people calling them crap... as well as butchering the English language at the same time. And I bet that the majority of you think that 'Starbuck' has something to do with the coffee company...

And I bet that the majority of you think that 'Starbuck' has something to do with the coffee company... First of all Starbuck didn't bring the coffe shop to mind, instead it reminded me of a character in a show I watch but I highly doubt it. Second of all, many people don't like those books because most people in these day have a different preference that the people had when it is written. Like Dr. Jeckell and Mr. Hyde, many people back then would have been horrified by that book but today we are so used to horror that most people wouldn't consider it scary. Does that mean it was a horrible book? No but it means a lot of people wouldn't enjoy it. Sorry for any grammatical of spelling mistakes.... I felll horrible right now.
