Actually I like Shakespeare...well his later works. Especially his poems. But when he was younger I didn't like much of it. He was too immature and focused only on beauty then. But he was good and I like epics any way. They just sound cool when you read them lol.

Oh wow ou guys just bashed so many classics...I mean...Just because you don't like a book doesn't mean it is a horrible book. Many of those books were brilliant in there time, and are still considered brilliant today. The only problem you may have with those books is the old english (which I admit makes it hard to enjoy before you become acclimated) but once you can understand that it heightens the enjoyment.
Just because it doesn't have modern pop-culture refrences doesn't mean its horrible. In fact the more power to it.
I bet you people didn't actually enjoy Lord of the Rings, or 20,000 leagues under the sea.

umm one I didn't enjoy lord of the rings. But not because of the old english, which I have no problem with I know what they're talking about when they talk. I didn't like Lord of the Rings for a different reason which I'm not getting into. I don't need like 20 fan boys running up and calling me a moron (which they would do) for argueing and having an opinion like a human being should ( I loved the movies by the way). Which brings me to my next point. Opinion. We trashed said classics because we did not like them. I hardly think thats a problem. Do you? Because last time I checked yup we're entitled to our opinions. So if your going to try and tell me that we're wrong for not enjoying these books then I'm not going to care. I think the way I think and that's not going to change because some one said I was wrong. In fact I'll just go out of my way to be a total fanatic about my beliefs just out of spite.

I couldn't help replying to this... umm one I didn't enjoy lord of the rings. But not because of the old english, which I have no problem with I know what they're talking about when they talk. I didn't like Lord of the Rings for a different reason which I'm not getting into. Too much depth? His reference to Lord of the Rings was in the classical sense. Well, it happens to be. The reason they are classics is because they'll be remembered years down the road. They are the pinnacle of writing, and they are what you as a writer should strive to achieve. Please use good grammar when expressing them/defending them. You aren't wrong for not enjoying them... You're wrong because you seem to not realize their literary worth, and you tell others to entirely avoid them. Do you deny their worth as books? Do you deny what makes them the classics? Most of the crap published today won't be remembered; it's crap. It is souless, shallow, has nothig new about it, nothing original, no message about all that is. Try me. That said, Fahrenheit 451 is one of my favourite books, simply because situations like this were predicted oh-so-long-ago. But you obviously must hate that book, it being a classic and all.

I must laugh. I must laugh, though sadly, at the way things have become in our society. Not only this lack of appreciation for famous literary works but many more things... and I can't help but feel that this self-esteem rubbish is the root of it all.

"My mother told me that I'm a better writer then that guy who wrote Lord of the Rings," he said before returning to his work. He was rather proud of one particular passage that went... The Master chief fired him dassaultr ilfe killing THree gruntss "Gruns douns he yeled into his helmet" Good job" john! Keyes screamed]. Sargent Johnson ran up to the Spartani and took his h&at off? Kissed him
THE ENDD
(Please note this is a passage from a small piece of fiction making fun of the general state of writing...) "See my mommy was right. My story is much better then that stupid Fahrenheit 45." (in case your wondering it came from this site Click this link, or ask how I did this. )
